My name is Judy Fowler and I am a Durham, NC native. I have lived in Durham most of my life.
I work in a busy Law firm at Brightleaf Square (www.pulleywatson.com ). I work four days a week to allow a little more time for painting on the weekend.
Painting is my passion and I look forward to the day that I can paint full time. My husband and I enjoy spending weekends at Smith Mountain Lake on our houseboat with friends and family. I have an art studio set up on my boat as well as in my home. I love to travel and often find inspiration from the places I go. I keep a camera with me to take photos of things I see that inspire me to paint. I enjoy painting people, animals, landscapes, buildings, seascapes, boats, lake scenes & birds.
I am a self- taught artist. I have studied many art books and have attended watercolor workshops and classes. I think once you learn to use watercolors you just have to practice and keep on painting. I have learned from many mistakes along the way as well.
I work mostly from photographs. I find that to work best for me since I have to fit painting into my life as time allows. That way I can paint at my pace and the light doesn’t change and the subject doesn’t get tired.
I enjoy as much as painting the beauty of the world and all the great subject matter that God has supplied me. Everywhere I look there is something that I want to capture in watercolor.
I have paintings in a local gallery conveniently located at Brightleaf Square. The gallery is Bull City Art and Frame Company (www.bullcityartandframecompany.com). That is 905 West Main St., Durham, NC 27701. If you are in the area, please stop by.
